Tesla Trip from Las Vegas to Georgia (April 2023)

Debbie and Kay on a Walk in GA

In April of 2023, Kay and John travelled to Georgia from Las Vegas, NV in our 2022 Tesla Y for its maiden voyage across the country to visit family. It was a learning experience for both of us ... but mainly me. John had most of it figured out and we didn't have any problems with getting the car charged in a timely manner. The only dicey section was between Oklahoma City and Van Buren, AR where we had to lower our speed only a little to make it okay. The main hiccup was the frequent occurrence of "phantom braking" which we decided might had something to do with the sunrises and sunsets hitting the cameras. We learned quickly to be prepared for the sudden "almost" stops. They really need to fix that somehow.
Each charging station was unique in location and it became a competition between John and I to find the "treasure" when we exited the freeway. The GPS led us straight to the chargers but we had to search for them after we neared them! A treasure hunt that gave us something fun to do. Most of the time, we took a 30 minute walk around while the car was charging and it felt very good to get the exercise and stretch time.
Most of the stations had a place nearby that allowed us to use the restrooms but a couple of the places where we stopped required a purchase for that amenity. We complied.
Sometimes we would see the same people at a few of the stations. Fun! All in all, our trip across the country in our Tesla in the year 2023 was a good experience. Of course, it was also fantastic to see family that we had not been able to see for about 4 years, mostly because of the pandemic thing.
Below, find photos of our trip. And, I want to give a special shout out to the wonderful dogs we met last week ... Molly, Kona, Frankie, Bruiser and, of course, old man Haze! What great additions to the family!
